Privacy Policy — Justifi

Your privacy matters. Justifi collects only what's needed to assess your case. We do not sell your data. We store it securely on Canadian-compliant infrastructure and give you full control over your information.

1 Who We Are

Justifi ("we", "us", "our") operates the AI-powered legal information platform at justifi.ca. We are based in Ontario, Canada, and are subject to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

2 Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide you with a useful legal assessment:

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as health records, financial account numbers, or government ID numbers.

3 How We Use Your Information

Your information is used only for the following purposes:

Generating your AI-powered case assessment and report
Creating and managing your account
Processing your payment through Stripe
Sending transactional emails (e.g., your assessment results, account verification)
Improving the accuracy and quality of our AI models using anonymized, aggregated data
Complying with legal obligations
Connecting you with lawyers if you request a referral

We will not use your personal information for marketing purposes without your explicit consent.

4 How We Store and Protect Your Data

We take data security seriously:

Encryption at rest: All database records containing personal information are encrypted
Encryption in transit: All communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption
Canadian-compliant hosting: Your data is stored on servers that meet Canadian data residency and security standards
PII stripping: Before your questionnaire responses are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic), identifying details such as your name, employer name, and exact salary are removed
Access controls: Only authorized personnel have access to personal data, and only when required to provide the service
Audit logging: Access to sensitive data is logged for security and compliance purposes

5 Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary:

Account data: Retained while your account is active and for up to 2 years after account deletion, unless you request earlier deletion
Case assessments: Retained for up to 2 years to allow you to access your previous reports
Uploaded documents: Retained for 90 days after upload, then permanently deleted
Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by Canadian tax law
Usage logs: Retained for 90 days for security and debugging purposes

You may request deletion of your personal data at any time (see Your Rights, below). Deletion requests will be processed within 30 days.

6 Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

Anthropic (AI analysis): Anonymized case details are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your assessment. No directly identifying information (name, employer, exact salary) is transmitted. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle API inputs.
Stripe (payments): Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. Justifi receives only a transaction confirmation — we never see or store your card details. See Stripe's privacy policy for details.
Lawyers (with your consent): If you choose to share your assessment with a lawyer through our platform, a anonymized summary is shared with that lawyer only.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

7 Cookies and Tracking

Justifi uses minimal cookies:

Session cookies: Required for authentication — these expire when you close your browser or log out
Local storage: We use browser local storage to keep you logged in across sessions and remember your assessment progress
No third-party tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or other third-party tracking cookies
No advertising cookies: We do not use cookies for advertising or behavioral profiling

You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings at any time. This will log you out of your account.

8 Your Rights Under PIPEDA

As a Canadian user, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

Right to Access

Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Right to Correction

Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.

Right to Deletion

Request permanent deletion of your account and personal data.

Right to Withdraw Consent

Withdraw consent for non-essential data processing at any time.

Right to Portability

Request your data in a portable, machine-readable format.

Right to Complain

File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

9 Children's Privacy

Justifi is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has submitted information through our platform, please contact us at brandon@justifi.ca.

10 Third-Party Links

Our platform may contain links to third-party websites (e.g., legal resources, law societies). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies. Our Privacy Policy applies only to information collected directly by Justifi.

11 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.

Continued use of Justifi after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
